When you are facing serious charges in a court of law you will need criminal lawyers to defend you. Their job is to be on your side in protecting your interests. It does not make any difference if you are guilty or innocent of the charges against you. The most important thing is to have someone who is going to fight for you no matter what.
There is one rule to follow when you are detained by the police for questioning: do not answer any questions. Always be respectful and polite to the authorities. Do not give them any trouble, but tell them that you must talk to your attorney. Do not answer any questions or volunteer any information to the authorities. This is the one huge mistake that many people make when dealing with the authorities.
Police have a very difficult job. They are dealing with the worst of humanity on a daily basis. It is easy to become jaded when you are a police officer. Because of this, Police will use tricks and lies. If there is any inconsistency in your answers they will pounce on it. The police need strong evidence to charge and convict you of a crime. If they are aggressively questioning you it means they do not have the evidence. By answering their questions and talking to them you could inadvertently give them the evidence they need to send you to jail.
It does not matter if you are guilty or innocent of the crime. It may seem odd that this is the case. You may think that the police and the prosecutors are interested in the truth. The sad thing is the police are not interested in the truth. This is why you must not talk to the police if you are suspected of a crime.
The only person you should talk to about your case is your attorney. Even then make sure your attorney is the right person for the job. Do not hire an attorney who wants to plea bargain right away without seeing how strong of a case the police have. If you have an attorney who is tough from the very beginning then you have a better chance that the prosecutor will drop the case because it is too weak.
When the police are trying to question you they may pretend to want to help you. They will often use a two pronged approach. On one hand they will tell you that you are looking at a long jail sentence. On the other hand, they will tell you that the best thing you can do to help yourself is to confess. When you think about this, their advice does not make any sense. If you are facing a long prison sentence how could you possibly help yourself by handing them the evidence that they do not have. Do not under any circumstances answer their questions until you have received legal advice from your attorney.
With an aggressive attorney on your side you will have a good chance of having charges dismissed if the evidence is weak. Prosecutors will not take a case to court if the evidence is not strong. Do not help the prosecutor by giving them the evidence they need to send you to jail. Remain silent and only talk to your attorney.
The best way to go is to conduct your life so you never need an attorney. Unfortunately innocent people are arrested and sent to jail all the time. If you are guilty of the crime the prosecution still have to prove their case in court. Do not make it easy for the police to send you to jail. Hire an aggressive team of criminal lawyers to represent you.
